By the year 2025...everyone will have a college degree, mobile phone, email, at least 1 social networking account, a few tweets in their pocket, and a blog.

The chronicles of a young, "prosurburian" urban pioneer, new Washingtonian" adjusting to the terrain of the city (almost a decade later).

anybody got fifty cents?

This morning going to work on the subway, I heard those words bellowing from a man with a cane asking for money. In the old days, we would call them beggars. Over the years, I have come across this man, primarily in Ward 6, at different areas of the city. He also calls out, "GOD IS GOOD". I suppose he is trying to also appeal to the compassion side of individuals. His chant was, "GOD IS GOOD, GOD IS GOOD, anybody got fifty cents?"

washed the windows

Whew, today was a day off.

A national federal holiday for the USA.

I washed my windows. The front windows. They are very dusty. I'm sure "Mr. House" feels a little cleaner. There is still more sprucing to do. Progress is a little slow. Today was a start in the right direction.

No pictures simply because I keep loosing my digital cameras (frown). I'm trying to decided which type of "digi" I am going to purchase. ( For some reason, I like to make up words, for example, "digi".

Thank God for federal holidays.

Thank God for American service members.

Salute!

hallelujah, i met my new neighbors today!

Today, I said, hello, "welcome," to new neighbors, fellow urban pioneers from the West.

This property has been vacant for almost a year. Before, that it was a duplex. And there were a slew of neighbors who engaged in a couple of indiscretions. There are more than enough single family homes that are converted duplexes on my street. Far too many. ..

So, today I received some of the best news all week. This home will be converted into a single home and my new neighbors will be owner occupants. Hallelujah!

It's been a long time coming, but change is going to come. ( A few people have lost their after hours hangout spot.)

Postal Service , Day Before Memorial

This Monday is Memorial Day in the US. There is one post office in Washington DC (not pictured) open 7 days a week. I'm not sure if it will be opened on Sunday since Monday is a federal holiday. Just wondering... It is always nice to be able to have the flexibility of going to the Post Office and checking my PO Box.For years the Main Post Office (the one that is open on Sunday) stayed opened until 11:59 PM. The US Postal Service is in a financial crisis and the snail mail volume is dropping as the Internet way of communicating continues to grow. So they close at 9:00 PM or is it 10:00 PM? This is a picture of a US Post Office at Union Station (a railroad station and retail place in Washington DC USA). This US Post Office is pretty small compared to the Main Post Office in Washington DC USA.

oasis

Oasis Liquor store in Northeast, Washington DC (USA) near the New York Avenue and Florida Avenue Metro Station has been vacant for some time. The current owner Mr. Pak is looking to reopen the store. (The current owner claims the store has been operable for some time.) A group of neighbors, the ANC Commissioner and a neighborhood association would prefer that Mr. Pak consider another use for his store. Some suggestions are a coffee shop and a cleaners. The store is actually zoned residential. Mr. Pak was able to grandfather into remaining a commercial establishment. The DC Government ruled Mr. Pak can remain open as a commerical business. It will be interesting to see what happens when/if Mr. Pak reopens.
